Program Note

Here Goes...is inspired by the composer’s experience in giving birth to her son, Charlie.
It was a four day process featuring a lot of labor, excitement, anxiety and finally...a baby! With exhausted new parents. The piece captures a reflection on some of the excitement and ordeal of those moments.

It is dedicated to Charlie Jullien, born in New Haven, Connecticut, in December 2019, near the end of the composer’s first semester of study for a Master of Musical Arts at Yale School of Music.

A version for string orchestra and percussion premiered on a Yale New Music for Orchestra concert in 2020. A version for full orchestra was read and recorded by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in 2021. The final work was revised in 2024.
